Week 016 (Nov 10–Nov 16): Prototyping, New Hardware Ideas & a Big Milestone

✍ Week’s content, if you missed it

🛠 This Week at the Workbench

  • Started planning the first prototype for HakFabrik. I ordered a few inexpensive components to test ideas and get a feel for the real hardware early.
  • Finalized the HakFabrik logo. It now captures everything I want the project to stand for: hardware, security, hacking, training devices, and embedded tech.
  • A major focus this week was also the landing page design. I’m refining the structure and visuals — with a bit of luck, the first version will be ready next week.

💡 Things I Learned or Noticed

  • For the first time in 20 years, I’m seriously considering buying a laptop that’s not a MacBook. It feels like I’m entering a new phase where my Linux work deserves a proper Linux-native machine. I’ve put a lot of thought into this — trying to avoid an impulse or “lust purchase.”
  • Started reading The Hardware Hacking Handbook. It’s a fantastic deep dive into embedded systems and security — great timing with the new HakFabrik direction.
  • Reached my first 100 subscribers on YouTube. Very grateful that people enjoy the content — a small milestone, but it feels good.

📸 Snapshot of the Week

🔗 Inspiration & Resources

  • Framework Laptop — Repairable, modular, and upgradable laptops finally done right.
  • The Hardware Hacking Handbook — Jasper van Woudenberg & Colin O’Flynn take embedded security apart in an accessible, practical way.

🚀 What’s Next

Next week I’m planning to flesh out the landing page for HakFabrik and continue refining the concept before going deeper into development.
