Week 006 (Sep 1–Sep 7): Enclosure Progress, Maker Posters & Garage Renovation

✍ Week’s content, if you missed it

🛠 This Week at the Workbench

  • Made good progress with the enclosure and wiring of my components. I like the tight design with two securing screws, but I still need to confirm everything fits together.
  • Started working on a freebie for new subscribers: a set of maker posters for your workshop or office. You can see a sneak peek in the header photo. Existing subscribers will get access too — everyone deserves a cool maker poster.
  • Continued the garage/workshop renovation. This week it was the garage door: an old galvanized door with many layers of paint. After trying a pressure washer and paint stripper, what finally worked was a heat gun and spatula — removing the paint without damaging the galvanization.

💡 Things I Learned or Noticed

  • While designing the posters, I realized how much I’ve missed that creative side of me. Technology excites me, but so does use art and design to express ideas.
  • My electronics desk is becoming a chaos zone — components, cables, and tools everywhere. I enjoy working in an organized space, so I’ll need a better system soon.
  • Mounting cables directly to electronics components instead of pin headers turned into a frustration fest. The “helping hand” tools I tried didn’t cut it, so I’ve started designing my own. Seems like nothing on the market fits what I have in mind. Have you run into the same problem?

🚀 What’s Next

Next week, I’m planning to put all the telemetry electronics into the enclosure and — if all goes well — attempt the first test flight.
